Winter 2009, temperatures have been dipping to minus double digits and we have had substantial snow. So much for our being in ‘The Banana Belt'. As I'm not a fan of the cold, it has been easier to sit at my desk and get going on the plant listing for 2009. This always proves to be an interesting chore as I am always amazed by the rapid advancements that have been made in plant breeding, and just how available exciting plant material has become. From the "Frosted Mouse Ears" hosta to the "Golden Spirit" smoke bush, we enjoy sourcing out the latest and greatest plant introductions. Our daylily, hosta, grass and perennial listings have many newer varieties being offered by us for the first time. While putting this listing together we have kept the current economic conditions in mind. Our home grown nursery stock is very well priced and we are passing along some exceptional deals from our suppliers, the result being a quality /price ratio second to none.
WE REMAIN A LEADING SOURCE FOR CUTTING EDGE DAYLILIES AND HOSTAS... OUR FOCAL POINT.
A good balance of perennials, shrubs, small trees, hanging baskets, etc. will better serve those seeking more of a general garden centre destination. Inspired by a successful first season, Dorothy has been lining up an interesting new selection for the GIFT SHOP. Paul has just returned from pond seminars in California with new ideas to continue the expansion of our WATER GARDEN department. The nursery sales area has been increased substantially and now completely encircles a central display garden area. Part of the renovation is an added structure dedicated to new, rare and/or unusual plant materials.
GREAT VALUE - Always popular with nursery visitors is our Five Dollar Table. This is a selection of 1 gallon perennials including hostas, daylilies, and lilies grown in volumes specifically for this purpose. The selection evolves over the season as plants sell out and new crops come on. Always great value, there are often pleasant surprises on this table as we attempt to keep it stocked - sort of a "Winners" for flowers.
Our site is visitor friendly and groups, large or small, are most welcome. We received many positive comments last season regarding the scenic drive and pretty setting we have lucked into. As a unique GARDEN DESTINATION we are working towards having something to offer everyone. We hope that many of you can get down our way and if not, we will keep you posted via the website.
Happy Gardening!
